Reducing NRW in India's urban regions

HWM Global evidences how a fixed network leak detection solution reduces costly NRW losses by monitoring network pressure and listening for leaks.

We have been able to identify leakages both overground and underground...this network has been able to benefit by the installation of these meters

With a growing population of almost 1.5bn people, water scarcity and non-revenue water (NRW) are significant concerns in India. Up to 50% of potable water is lost, primarily through bursts, leaks and aging infrastructure, and as such, utility companies are always searching for effective ways to reduce NRW and save water.

In partnership with Swach Environment Private Limited and Haldia Water Services Pvt Ltd, HWM Global recently undertook a pilot project to monitor 1.5km of 600mm pipeline that delivers a 24/7 water supply to the region.

Using our MultiLog LX2 data loggers, integrated with PermaNet+ acoustic loggers, we were able to successfully implement permanent monitoring and pressure management of the pipeline:

Pressure Fluctuations – our monitoring identified that pressure in the pipeline was rising and falling every 15 minutes. Pressure spikes can lead to bursts, so analysing and fixing the cause of these fluctuations can help to protect the network.

Leak Pinpointing – during the project we identified a number of leaks and were able to pinpoint their location with 100% accuracy, successfully demonstrating the effectiveness of our technology in live trial situations.

Long-term Monitoring – our products were tested against other global and local technologies in this project. The results delivered by HWM Global have encouraged Swach Environment to scale up our network monitoring solutions across their 200km network – proof that lasting impact starts with getting it right the first time!

By delivering a combined pressure monitoring and leak detection solution, HWM Global is supporting Swach Environment to deliver Haldia Water the data
and insights needed to both identify and fix bursts and schedule maintenance of critical infrastructure.
