In its newly-released spending review for 2020-2025, Ofwat is expecting water companies in England and Wales to reduce leakage by 16%.

Ofwat is confident that through effective leak detection, enough water to meet the needs of everyone in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool and Sheffield can be saved over the next five years.

While announcing spending of £51bn, Ofwat Chief Executive Rachel Fletcher said:

“Today we’re firing the starting gun on the transformation of the water industry backed by a major investment programme to deliver new, improved services for customers and the environment and resilience for generations to come.  Now water companies need to crack on, turn this into a reality and transform their performance for everyone.

“They will be investing the equivalent of an extra £6 million each day and every day to overhaul services, strengthen their infrastructure and improve our natural environment”.

To support water companies in their leak detection efforts, we’ve recently released PermaNET SU, the compact, single unit version of the award-winning PermaNET+.

Retaining the features of the PermaNET+ system, PermaNET SU combines a leak noise sensor and telemetry technology into a robust and durable unit.
