At HWM, we are proud to be partnered with Yorkshire Water in an exciting, year-long, smart technology trial which aims to use data to reduce leaks.
The biggest of its kind in Europe, Yorkshire Water’s Hadfield Smart Water Network Pilot will collect data from multiple new and existing sources into a single visual platform, taking advantage of machine learning and AI to accurately inform asset and operational decision making.
The smart water networks analytics system will gather enough information to understand the signals that precede incidents like leaks, such as pressure transients in the pipe. This knowledge will help to identify incidents before they happen, supporting the trial target of reducing reported leakage by 20%, as well as reductions in supply interruptions through calming of the network.
During the trial, Yorkshire Water will use a portion of the existing fleet of 38,000 PermaNET+ units that currently monitor their network. We will also be supporting the trial with flow and pressure monitoring solutions.
Yorkshire Water’s innovation programme manager, Sam Bright said: “We are really pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with this pilot, by using the latest technology to deliver maximum benefits for our customers and the environment. It has been great to partner with HWM and Invenio - their contributions are key in bringing the vision to reality.”
Being undisruptive and easy to install, as well as remotely programmable, PermaNET+ and the NBIOT-enabled PermaNet SU are ideal solutions for large-scale deployments, such as the Hadfield Smart Network.
As a company that is focussed on innovation, we are committed to assisting in this new smart technology trial and look forward to seeing the benefits this could bring.
The Hadfield smart water network pilot is a multi-stakeholder collaboration, with over 15 vendors involved, including both HWM and Invenio Systems. The trial represents significant investment from Yorkshire Water, which is aiming to revolutionise the way it manages leaks and interruption to supply, and we are excited to be involved in making it successful.
