Anglian Water announce pledge on plastic waste
Anglian Water

Anglian Water has announced a radical commitment to rid the East of England of plastic waste by 2030.

This ambitious pledge will tackle all plastic waste which isn’t reusable, recyclable or compostable.

Anglian Water, which serves a tenth of the UK population, is already working in conjunction with non-profit organisation City to Sea to roll out free water refill schemes in numerous towns and cities.  The company also funds projects with Keep Britain Tidy to remove plastics from local rivers and beaches.

Leading from the front, this ground-breaking pledge outlines how Anglian Water intends to bring together a task force of big business, manufacturers, retailers and suppliers from across the region to tackle problem plastics, specifically: -

  • Understanding the true scale of the problem
  • Forming a coalition
  • Working with customers
  • Eliminating single use plastic waste

Chief Executive of Anglian Water, Peter Simpson, said “launching this ambitious pledge against plastics, on World Ocean’s Day, is the perfect opportunity to put our stake in the ground about how we as a business will play a part in tackling the plastics problem across the whole region”.

“Saying it’s difficult is not good enough and we can’t do this alone, which is why we want to bring the right people together to better understand and tackle the problem from beginning to end”.
