Andrex®, one of the UK’s most recognisable brands, has officially achieved ‘Fine to Flush’ approval for their Washlets™ brand of wipes.
In an announcement from Water UK, the developer of the ‘Fine to Flush’ standard, it was confirmed that Andrex Washlets have passed the strict water industry tests which prove that they will break up in the sewer system and will not cause blockages and fatbergs.
As a result, Andrex Washlets are now able to display the ‘Fine to Flush’ logo on their packaging, becoming the fifth product in the UK market to do so.
Making the announcement, Christine McGourty, Chief Executive of Water UK said:
“This is a great step forward in the fight against fatbergs. In the water industry, we’re passionate about protecting the environment, and our ‘Fine to Flush’ standard is part of that, making it easier for consumers to buy something that is environmentally-friendly.
We want other companies to follow the example of Andrex and make sure their products pass the ‘Fine to Flush’ test too. Everyone wants a future without fatbergs, and this will help to make that a reality”.
The ‘Fine to Flush’ standard was developed in January 2019 to combat blockages and fatbergs which is partially caused by the flushing of wipes.
According to Water UK, there are approximately 300,000 sewer blockages annually, costing the country around £100 million.
The ‘Fine to Flush’ standard, which manufacturers can apply for, is awarded to products that pass stringent scientific testing for flushability.
Products that meet the standard can carry the ‘Fine to Flush’ logo, making customers aware that the products are plastic-free and will break down in the sewer system.
